هَل ذَهَبْتـُمْ أبَداً إلىَ مُتْحَفٍ وَرَأيْتـُمْ شَيْئًا لَمْ
تَفْهَموهُ
مُطْلَقاً؟
Did you ever go to a museum to see something
you did not understand
(it)
at all?

رَأيْتـُمْ لَوْحَةً أو
نَحْتاً وَوَقَفـْتـُمْ أمامَهُ لِساعاتٍ؟
Did you see a painting or sculpture and stand in front of
it by the hours?

هَلْ سَألـْتـُمْ أبَداً: ما هَذا! في ماذا كانَ الْفَنّانُ
يُفَكِّرُ؟
Did you ever ask: what is this! What was the artist
thinking about?

في أغْلَبِ
اَلْأحْيانِ اَلْفَنّانُ يَقولُ: لَيْسَ مُهِمًّا ما
أُفَكِّرُ فيهِ
اَلْمُهِمُّ اَلْذي تَراهُ أنْتَ
A lot of time the artist says: It is not
important what I am thinking what is
important is what you see.

لَكِنْ غالِباً نَحْنُ لا نَرىَ أولا نَفْهَمُ الْفَنّانَ
But usually we
do not see
or we
do not understand
the artist.

أحْياناً، اَلْفَنُّ لَيْسَ لَهُ أيَّ مَعْنىَ بِالْمَرَّةِ
إنَّما يَكونُ بِهِ
شَيْئاً لا يجْعَلُنا نَنْساهُ
Sometimes the art does not have any meaning
at all but there is something in it that
does
not allow us to forget it.

وَ أحْياناً اَلْفَنُّ لَهُ مَعْنىَ إنَّما لا
نـَتـَذَكـَرُهُ
And sometimes art has a meaning but
we do not remember
it.

إنْ
رَأيْتَ أُذُنـًا مَصْنوعَةً مِن
شَمْعٍ
أتـَتـَذ كَّرُها
أمْ لا تـَتـَذَكـَّرُها؟
If you saw an ear made of wax will you remember
it or
will you not remember
it.

إنْ
كانَتْ هَذِهِ الْأُذُنُ لَها مَعْنىَ في حَياتِكَ فَمِنَ
الْمُمْكِنِ
أنَّك لَنْ تَنْساها
If this ear has a meaning in your life maybe
you will not forget
it.
