هُناكَ رَجُلٌ اِسْمُهُ أُسامَة There was a man by the name of Ossama.

لَمْ يَكُنْ أُسامَةُ رَجُلاً طَيِّباً Ossama was not a good man.

كانَ
يَكْذِبُ، وَيَصْيحُ، وَيَسْرِقُ He
lies,
and
shouts,
and
steals.

 |
لَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ أحَداً
يُحِبُّ
أُسامَةَ
There wasn't anyone who
liked
Ossama.

كانَ
أُسامَةُ
يَشْعُرُ بِالْوِحْدَةِ في الدُّنْيا
Ossama
felt lonely in the world.
(present tense verb used in the Arabic).

كُلُّ يَوْمٍ كانَ وَحيداً Everyday he was by himself.
(present tense verb used in the Arabic).

يَأكُلُ وَحْدَهُ،
يَجْلِسُ
وَحْدَهُ، يَمْشيِ وَحْدَهُ، وَيَنامُ
وَحْدَهُ
He would eat
by himself, sit
by himself,
walk by
himself, and
sleep by
himself.

كانَ
أُسامَةُ
مُكْتَئِباً وَحَزينا جِداً Ossama was
depressed and very
unhappy.

ذاتَ يَوْمٍ
قالَتْ
لَهُ سَيِّدَةٌ عَجوزٌ طَيِّبَةٌ
أنْ يَذْهَب لِيَشْتَري
ضَميراً جَديداً عَلَيْهِ
خَصْمٍ
وَيَشْرَبُهُ
One day an old kind lady told him
to go to buy
a new soul on discount and
to
drink
it.
(present tense verb is used instead of the
infinitive in MSA/Classical).

أُسامَةُ أَعْجَبَتْهُ الْفِكْرَةَ جِداً وَشَكَرَها
Ossama liked the idea very much and thanked her.

 |
هَذِهِ كانَتْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ يَشْكُرُ فيها
إنسان في
حَياتِهِ
This was the first time
to
thank
a person in his life.

جَرَى أُسامَةُ
إلى
الْمَحَلِّ
لِيَشْتَرِيَ* ضَميراً Ossama
ran to the store because (he wanted)
to buy
a soul.
|
 |
قالَ
لَهُ صاحِبُ الْمَحَلِّ
إنَ كل
اَلضَّمائِرُ
عَليَهم
خَصْمِ
وَكُلُّهُم يَجْعَلونَ
اَلْفَرْدَ
يَصيرُ
إنسان
طَيِّبـاً
The store owner
said to him that all of the souls are on
discount and all of them let the individual
become
a good person.

عِنْدَما لَم يَكُنْ صاحِبُ الْمَحَلِّ
يَنْظُرُ، اِنْتَقىَ أُسامَةُ
ضَميراً وَجَرىَ
خارِج الْمَحَلِّ When the store owner wasn't
looking Ossama chose a soul
and ran out from the store.

طَلَعَ
صاحِبُ الْمَحَلِّ وَجَرَى وَراءَهُ
وَهوَ يَقولَ: يا
رَجُلُ لَمْ تَدْفَعْ لِلضَّميرِ!
The store owner came out after him and said: You didn't
pay for the soul!

 |
رَدَّ أُسامَةُ : أنا
أعْرِفُ، سَوْفَ
أرْجَعُ في
الْباكِرِ
لِأدْفَعَ
بِضَميري الجَّديدِ إنْ نَفعْ
الأمر
Ossama replied: I
know, I will
return tomorrow with my new
soul, to pay, if it
works.
