كان بِيِكْذِب، وِبِيْزَعَّق، وِبِيِسْرَق
Kaan

biyisra'. He
lies,
and shouts,
and steals.

ما كانْش فيه حَدًّ
بِيِحِبّْ أُسامَة
Makanŝ fiih
ḥad
biyḥib
Ossaama. There wasn't anyone who
liked Ossama.
(present tense verb used in the Arabic).

أُسامَة كان
حاسِس بِالْوِحْدَة في الدُّنْيا Ossaama kaan
ḥaasis bil wiḥda fid dunya. Ossama
felt lonely in the world.

كُل
يوم كان
لِوَحْدُه Kul yom kaan liwaḥdu. Everyday he was by himself.
|

بِياكُل لِوَحْدُه،
بِيُقْعُد لِوَحْدُه،
بِيِمْشي لِوَحْدُه،
وِبِيْنام لِوَحْدُه
Biyaakul liwaḥdu,
biyuçud liwaḥdu,
biyimŝi liwaḥdu, wi
biynaam liwaḥdu. He would
eat by himself,
sit by himself,
walk by himself, and
sleep by himself.

مُكْتَئِب وِزَعْلان خالِص Ossaama kaan
mukta'ib wi
zaçlaan xaalis.
Ossama was
depressed and very
unhappy.

سِتّْ عَجوزَة طَيِّبَة قالِت لُه يوم يِروح يِشْتِري ضَمير
جِديد عَلىَ خَصْم وِيِشْرَبُه Sit çaguuza
ṭayyiba 'alitlu yom yiruuḥ
yiŝtiri ḍamiir gidiid çala xasm wi yiŝrabu. An old
kind lady told him one day to go to buy a new
soul on discount and to drink it.

وِشَكَرْها Ossaama
ḥab il fikra awwi wi ŝakarha. Ossama liked the idea very much and thanked her.

بَني آدَم
في حَياتُه Di kaanit awwil marra yiŝkur bana'aadim fi
ḥayaatu.
This was the first time (for him) to thank a person
in his life.

يِشْتِري
ضَمير Ossaama gara lil maḥal çaŝaan yiŝtiri ḍamiir. Ossama
ran to the store because (he wanted) to buy a soul.

صاحِب الْمَحَلّ قال لُه إنِّ الضَّمائِر كُلُّهم عَلىَ خَصْم
وِكُلُّهُم بِيْخَلّوا الْواحِد يِبْقى بَني آدَم كْوَيِّس ṣaahib il maḥal 'alu in id damaa'r kuluhum çala
xasm wi kuluhum
biyxalu il waaḥid yib'a banna'aadim kwayis. The store owner said to him that all of the souls are
on discount and all of them
let the
individual become a good person.

أمّا صاحِب الْمَحَلّ ما كانْش
بِيْبُص أُسامَة نَقَّى ضَمير
وِجَرىَ
مِنِ الْمَحَلّ Amma ṣaahib il maḥal makanŝ
biybus Ossaama na'a ḍamiir wi gara min il maḥal.
When the store owner wasn't
looking Ossama chose a soul and ran
from the store.

يا راجِل
ما
دَفَعْتِش
لِلْضَمير! ṣaahib il
maḥal ṭalaç waraah wi 'allu:
ya raagil madafaçtiŝ lil ḍamiir! The store owner came out after him and said: You didn't pay for
the soul!

عارِف ، حارْجَع
بُكْرَة بِضَميري الكّْوَيِّس لَو نَفَع عَشان أدْفْع Ossaama raḍ: mana
çaarif,
ḥargaç bukra biḍamiiri ik kwayis law nafaç çaŝaan 'adfaç. Ossama replied:
I
know...I will return tomorrow with my new soul, if it
works, to pay.
