Conjugate
“suura”
(picture)…
Here,
“suura”
ends in
one consonant once the
"a"
is dropped.
Take a
moment to decide whether to use
“it”
or
“t”
or
"ti"
prior to attaching the possessive suffix.
Note: Remember
when
the
“a”
is dropped in “suura”
you need to add a
“t”
OR
“it”
or
"ti"
depending if the suffix begins with a vowel or not.
Suffixes that begin with a consonant will need
“it”
so as not to have two consonants in a row.

Note: For the
word
"suritha"
the original
word is
"sura."
If you wish to add the
"ha" possessive
particle first remove the
"a"
in "sura"
and you are left with
"sur..."
But now we have a
problem!
The
r
and
t
and
h
will result in the dreaded three consonants in a row - which we
don't want!
Therefore, we add an
"i"
before the
t as shown in
the table below. This
"i"
is what we refer to as the helping vowel.
Rule recall: Helping vowels are added to:
1- Words ending in two consonants
2- Words ending in one consonant with an attached possessive suffix
that begins with a consonant.
The possessive suffixes that begin with consonants are
ha, na,
kum,
and
hom.
These are the suffixes
that require a helping vowel.
Therefore we use
“it."
The remaining suffixes begin with vowels so we use
“t”
or
"ti"
.
The below helping vowels are in
red.
