Be careful

If a preposition ends in ONE CONSONANT you simply add the object suffix without adding another vowel.

Examples...

فَوْقيِ

فوقِـي

1-  16  foo’i - The word foo ends in one consonant because ( ’ ) is a consonant.

فَوْقَكَ

فوقـَكْ
2-  17  fooak

فَوْقَكِ

فوقـِكْ
3-  18  fooik

***********************************************

The below two points are a little trickier…

When do you add a helping vowel before the object suffix?

Point #1:  If the preposition ends in a VOWEL and the object suffix begins with a consonant you need to add another vowel BEFORE slotting in the object suffix.

After all you can't have more than two vowels in a row. Just as you can't have more than two consonants in a row.

Examples...for   وَراء

وَرائـيِ

وَرايا
1-
19  waraaya - The word warra ends in a vowel so you need to add another vowel BEFORE the object suffix.

وَراءَنا

وَرانا

2-  20  waraana - Note the object suffix begins with a consonant (shown in blue). Therefore, you add an extra vowel (shown in red).

وَراءهُم

وَراهُم

3-  21  waraahom

Point #2: If the preposition ends in TWO CONSONANTS and the object suffix begins with a consonant add a vowel BEFORE slotting in the object suffix.

Examples...for جانِبٌ

جَانِبُها

جَـمْبَها

1-  22  gambaha - The word gamb ends in TWO CONSONANTS; therefore, a helping vowel is required.

BUT WHICH HELPING VOWEL?? An a-i-u?? Look for patterns and guess at this point.

جَانِبُهُم

جـَمْبُـهُمْ
2-
23  gambuhum - Here the helping vowel is an u

جانِبُنا

جـَمْبِـنا

3-  24  gambina - Here the helping vowel is an i

Drills 1 & 2 with answers
