Drills with answers (negation of the past tense)

See negation in action for past tense verbs

Fill in the blanks after negating the given past tense verbs.

Note on MSA: The past tense verb is negated with the particle "لم" and the verb is in the jussive mood.

Rule recall: There are three moods for the imperfect tense of a verb:  the [1] indicative, the [2] subjunctive, and the [3] jussive

[1] The imperfect (fancy way for saying the present tense) in the indicative denotes an incomplete action هِيَ تَكْتُبُ الْجَوابَ

[2] The subjunctive is used in a subordinate clause (or dependant clause) after the following common conjunctions: أنْ   that  ،أنْ لا   that not  لـِ ، كَيْ ، لِكَيْ ،لِأنْ so that  كَيْ لا ، لِكَيْ لا ، لَئل   so that not  حتَّى until.

The subjunctive preceded by لن "will not" is used to express negation in the future.

[3] The jussive mood is used to express a wish or a command ... such as: May I write or write!

The particle لم "did not" is used with the imperfect in the jussive mood to negate a past action.
